Our Focus
Building a more useful and more authentic workforce dataset for Erie County.
Erie County lacks a unified workforce system that connects its regional economic development projects to the jobs those projects are meant to create. Depthline exists to help close that gap by turning scattered public labor-market data into clear, accessible intelligence that residents, employers, educators, and planners can actually use. If the tool is built well, it can help anchor a training pipeline that prepares local residents for the jobs the region is working to create.
What we do today
Depthline synthesizes publicly available labor-market data such as long-term occupational projections, state wage data, enrollment trends, and regional economic indicators into a navigable picture of where Erie County's opportunities are and where its gaps lie. Our current "Projected Careers" framework maps occupations by demand, growth, wages, and accessibility, organized around the region's priority industry clusters.
We're transparent about what this data is and isn't. The authoritative sources we rely on are released infrequently and at the state or metro level, which means they lag the real economy and can't capture everything happening locally. We say so plainly, surface those limitations alongside the numbers, and never present an estimate as more certain than it is.
Where we're headed
Labor markets are local but the best data usually isn't. Our long-term aim is to build a more current, regionally specific dataset for Erie County: a layer that combines higher-frequency local signals with the authoritative-but-slow public projections, so the picture updates between official releases and reflects this region rather than a statewide average. The aim is to reduce the lag, sharpen the geography, and make the remaining uncertainty visible rather than hidden.
Why candor is the product
Workforce decisions made on spun or stale data cost real people real opportunities.
Depthline's commitment is to candor: surfacing contradictions, naming data gaps, and reporting what the evidence actually shows, even when it complicates the plan.
That's what makes the intelligence worth trusting.
